Q: Are people under 21 allowed?
A: Yes, this is a family restaurant. The under-21s just can't enter the bar area.
Q: Do you allow walk-ins?
A: We really prefer you create an account and sign up for a timeslot here on the website. However, people have been known to not show up, leaving a big hole in the schedule. So the answer is a definite maybe but don't count on it.
Q: We're a seven-piece band with drums and a brass section. Can we come and play?
A: A full drum set will take up 70% of our stage area, and is therefore not recommended. Plus the fact that your setup time and tear-down time will eat up all of your 30 minute time slot.
Q: Just how big is the stage?
A: Three people, all standing up, with guitars, can fit comfortably in our stage area. When you add a fourth, things start getting a little cramped.
Q: Can I play piano?
A: I don't know. Can you?
Q: Yeah, real funny.
A: Sorry. Yes, we have an upright piano for your ivory-tinkling pleasure.
Q: Do I need to bring my own guitar amp?
A: No, you can just plug into our DI.
Q: MAY I bring my own amp?
A: Yes, you may, but we'll probably ask you to keep it turned down and only use it as a stage monitor. We'll mic it and feed it through the mains. This is a pleasant little restaurant/bar, and we can't crank the music incredibly loud. Also remember that the time it takes to set up and tear down your equipment takes away from your allotted performance time.
Q: Can I bring a CD of my backing tracks to perform with?
A: We prefer to avoid this, as it tends to encourage Karaoke, and this is definitely not karaoke night. At least one musical instrument must appear in your lineup!
Q: But what if we have an "a cappella" group?
A: Oh. Okay, new rule: At least one musical instrument, or at least three voices singing separate parts, must appear in your lineup.
Q: May I bring my own vocal mic?
A: Yes.
Q: I signed up to play but I can't make it! What should I do?
A: Log in and go the Sign Up page and click on the yellow button next to your name, or if you have access to email, shoot a short message to postmaster@eastsideopenmic.net. Otherwise call 425-906-3314 and leave a message with your stage name and a return number.
